Head Coach
Jason Jellerson
Coach Jason Jellerson is entering his 28th season of coaching and his first year as the Varsity Head Coach at Foothill High School, where he has been coaching for the past 9 years. After graduating from Chapman University, Jason began his coaching career at his alma mater, Park City High School. He then moved back to Orange County, where he coached at Anaheim High School and Orange Lutheran High School before joining Foothill in 2017. Jason’s passion for coaching comes from using football to teach valuable life lessons. His favorite quote is, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you're right,” by Henry Ford. Outside of football, Jason is a devoted Notre Dame fan.

Offensive Coordinator | Running Backs
Gary Fishel
Coach Gary Fishel has been coaching for 28 years, with 26 of those years spent at Foothill High School. He currently serves as the Varsity Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach. Over the years, Gary has built an impressive coaching resume, including 10 years as the Head Baseball Coach, 7 years as an Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach, and 13 years as a football coach, both as an assistant at the Varsity and Freshman levels. His favorite part about coaching is watching players achieve levels of performance they never thought possible. Gary’s go-to saying is, “Character is what you do when people are not watching.” Outside of coaching, Gary is a proud fan of the Washington State Cougars.

Eric Garcia
Coach Garcia is in his 15th year of coaching football, the last eight coaching at his alma mater, Foothill. He played seven years in the National Public Safety Football League, making our Football family proud of his accomplishments off the field. He enjoys the opportunity to shape our players for football, and for life. His philosophy is to put the team first and be all in. He and his wife, Cathy, are proud parents to Foothill alumni Ryann and Bobby, who will be a senior at Foothill. When he isn’t coaching, Eric serves our community fighting fires and listening to music from his favorite band AC/DC, while spending quality time with his fantastic family and friends.

Austin Liles
Coach Austin Liles is in his first year at Foothill High School and currently coaches the Varsity Wide Receivers. With two years of coaching experience, Austin brings a strong playing background to the field. He was a standout receiver at Orange Lutheran from 2013 to 2017 under Coaches Jellerson and Meza, earning All-Trinity League honors. He went on to earn a full-ride Division I scholarship to San Jose State, where he received All-Mountain West accolades before finishing his playing career at the University of San Diego, helping the team win the Pioneer League Championship. Austin’s favorite part of coaching is the strategy and building relationships with his players. His go-to phrase is, “It’s all mental!” and he proudly supports his alma mater, the San Jose State Spartans.

Jeff Yourstone
Coach Jeff Yourstone has been coaching football for 23 years, with two of those years spent at Foothill High School. Currently serving as the Varsity Linebackers coach, Jeff has also coached at Katella High School. His passion for coaching lies in helping players improve and showing them the importance of being part of something greater than themselves. A favorite phrase he uses during practice and games is "Find work," emphasizing the value of hard work and constant effort. Outside of coaching, Jeff is a big fan of Boise State football.

Brian Woods
Coach Brian Woods has 14 years of coaching experience, with 3 of those years spent at Foothill High School. He currently coaches the Junior Varsity Offensive Line, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role.

Jeff Mancini
Coach Jeff Mancini is in his first year at Foothill High School, bringing 7 years of coaching experience, primarily at the youth level, with a focus on the offensive side of the ball. He currently coaches the Junior Varsity Receivers. Jeff’s favorite part about coaching is witnessing the growth of his players and the strong bonds they form throughout the season. His go-to phrase at practice and in games is, "Control the controllables – hustle & heart." Outside of coaching, Jeff is a fan of both USD and Wisconsin college football.

Chris Fergus
Chris Fergus is in his third year coaching at Foothill High School, bringing over five years of coaching experience. He currently coaches the JV football team, focusing on quarterbacks and running backs. Previously, Chris ran the 8th-grade camp for two years, helping incoming freshmen develop their skills.
His favorite part of coaching is seeing players improve, especially those who are new to the game. Chris encourages players to give their best effort, no matter their experience level. A fan of the Oregon Ducks, his coaching philosophy centers on commitment and improvement. Favorite saying: "Give me your best, I don’t care what your best is, just as long as that's what you're giving."

FRESHMAN COACHES

Head Coach
Alex Sanchez
Coach Alex Sanchez has been coaching football for an impressive 35 years, with 15 of those years spent at Foothill High School. Currently serving as the Head Freshman Coach, Alex has coached at various high schools, including La Quinta, Los Amigos, Fountain Valley, and Cypress, as well as at Golden West College and Chapman University. He emphasizes the importance of building a strong team culture, a philosophy he learned from his mentor Roger Takahashi. Alex’s favorite part of coaching is watching players apply the lessons of strength, honor, integrity, and teamwork on and off the field, helping them succeed in college, their careers, and in life. His favorite saying is, "Champions are made when no one is watching." Outside of coaching, Alex is a dedicated UCLA fan.

Denis Gardner
Coach Denis Gardner is in his first year at Foothill High School and serves as the Freshman Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. With five years of coaching experience, Denis has focused on developing quarterbacks and leading offenses at the youth and community levels. His favorite part of coaching is watching young athletes put in hard work and achieve their goals. He often reminds his players, “How we do the little things is how we are going to do the big things.” Denis is a proud alumnus and fan of the San Diego State Aztecs.
